Meximodo Restaurant And Tequila Bar Opens In Jersey City This Week

JERSEY CITY, NJ — The second location of Meximodo Cocina Mexicana & Tequila Bar in New Jersey will hold its grand opening in Jersey City this week.

The restaurant will open in Haus25, a residential building on Christopher Columbus Drive across from Whole Foods. The location is two blocks from the Grove Street PATH Station.

The eatery is a concept from the team behind Le Malt Hospitality Group, which has a Metuchen location.

The eatery will open at 4 p.m. this Thursday.

The owners say the location will serve up traditional favorites as well as an extensive vegetarian and vegan menu.

It will "serve its guests a deeply genuine, regionally inspired menu of traditional and contemporary Mexican cuisine. Like its sister restaurant, it will boast one of the world’s largest libraries of tequilas, mezcals and other agave spirits, ranging from the varied expressions distilled by major international producers to near-impossible-to-find, family-owned artisanal brands exclusively available at Meximodo."

In 2024, with more than 1,000 bottles, the team behind the restaurant was awarded a Guinness World Record for most tequila/agave spirits commercially available in a restaurant/bar globally.

Executive Chef Antonio Carballo was educated at Culinary Institute of America and several high-profile restaurants in New York.

"Chef Antonio respects the roots of classic Mexican cuisine," said a spokesperson, "combining his natural expertise, education and soul in every dish on Meximodo’s menu for a fresh, new culinary experience. His menu includes a separate Vegetarian Menu of 22 delicious items, offering thoughtful options and flexibility for vegetarian/vegan diners."

Vegan Twists

These dishes include Cauliflower al Pastor: smoky-sweet satisfaction, Corn & Poblano Rigatoni (with sweet corn), watermelon and tomato salad, and other delights.
