Here's Exactly How The Secaucus Rec Center Will Be Expanded

We got more details on this:

SECAUCUS, NJ — Last week, the town of Secaucus announced it will be expanding the Rec Center. But the town's announcement provided few details.

Now, on April 2, Secaucus Mayor Mike Gonnelli gave some new information:

The town plans to build an addition to the left side of the Rec Center, if you are looking directly at it.

This will be a two-story addition. The town plans to build a very large room on the first floor that will be used by the youth wrestling teams. Youth wrestling has exploded in popularity in Secaucus, and they say they need a dedicated space to meet and practice.

The group exercise room that's there currently will be moved up to the second floor and will be made much larger.

This addition is currently in its design phase, said Gonnelli. Construction would not start until the end of 2026, or 2027. So the opening of this is two years away, he said.

Congresswoman Nellie Pou secured a $250,000 federal grant to help pay for some of the costs of this addition. Gonnelli said the town is working to secure more money and "there will be no cost to taxpayers to pay for this," he said.

Also, in other news Gonnelli said both Houlihan's and PetSmart plan to reopen again in Secaucus. Houlihan's had to shut down after heavy snow this winter broke its flat roof (water was leaking on people while they were dining), and PetSmart was closed by the town Building Dept. for numerous violations. Gonnelli said he was told by the Building Dept. that both businesses have been making the repairs and plan to open this spring. Exactly when they will reopen is unknown.
