Rooted in the Bronx. New York, about a writer and a lyricist and her trials and tribulations on the road to success in getting her work published! I highly recommend. It provides an excellent journey in musicology, covering old-school, new-school rap, hip-hop, and R&amp;B, making it a very teachable moment and a valuable exposure. We live in an age of fast everything—fast news, fast scrolling, fast talking. But stories remind us to slow down, to listen, to remember. My Life My Song is my way of saying: our stories are sacred. They’re not just personal—they’re communal. And when we tell them, we keep history alive. Before I wrote poems, I listened to songs. Gospel on Sunday mornings, Motown on the radio, and the sweet hum of lullabies from my mother. These sounds became my foundation, and they flow through every page of My Life My Song. Music is memory, and memory is story. That’s why you’ll find lyrics threaded throughout the anthology—because my life has always sung. Every word in My Life My Song came from lived experience—moments that shaped me, tested me, and taught me. This book isn’t just a collection of poems and songs; it’s a testament to the beauty of holding on, of remembering, of giving thanks.
