Councilwoman Is Running For West Orange Mayor In 2026 Election
Tammy Williams is setting her sights on a new political goal: mayor of West Orange.

WEST ORANGE, NJ ā Tammy Williams is setting her sights on a new political goal: mayor of West Orange.
The town council member announced her candidacy for the 2026 mayor race this week, declaring that āour best days are ahead.ā
āI have the experience,ā Williams said. āI see the gaps. And I know what it takes to move West Orange forward.ā

āThis campaign is about collaboration, results, and building a stronger, more connected community,ā she continued. āTogether, we will focus on economic growth, responsible budgeting, and the health and wellness of every resident. Everything is possible when we come together.ā

Williams won a special election to fill an unexpired term for Asmeret Ghebremicael in November 2025. She formerly served on the town council as president, has decades of experience as a real estate broker, founded the West Orange Suicide Advocacy Coalition and has served on the West Orange Human Relations Commission, among other municipal duties.
Current mayor Susan McCartney was sworn in as the townās first woman mayor in 2023. Her term ends this year.
Another candidate recently declared his candidacy for mayor in 2026: Brian Rock. He currently serves as president of the West Orange Board of Education.
