Police say the 27-year-old man was found to be in the United States illegally after he was found with counterfeit currency.

UNIONDALE, NY — A Freeport man found in possession of counterfeit U.S. currency Tuesday night is now in Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody and facing deportation, police officials said.
Nassau County police say Selvin Omar Ventura Velasquez, 27, was found in possession of the fraudulent currency during a Bureau of Special Operations (BSO) investigation near the intersection of Jerusalem Avenue and Bira Street in Uniondale at 8:45 p.m.
Velasquez was arrested and is charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the third degree. Police say they determined Velasquez’s immigration status after the investigation. He has been released on an appearance ticket and was taken into ICE custody, officials said.
