Meet the Owner: Dr. Kathleen DeDio Opens Divine Chiropractic

In practice for 20 years, Dr. Kathleen DeDio moved in to her new office in February and after months of waiting to acquire permits, finally opened Divine Chiropractic near the beginning of July.

Divine Chiropractic, located at 465 Route 25A in Miller Place, will be holding its official grand opening celebration Aug. 10 from noon to 3 p.m. Legis. Sarah Anker and Councilwoman Jane Bonner will be in attendance for a ribbon cutting ceremony and everyone at the event will get a free health screening appointment. There will also be refreshments, giveaways and prizes.

Dr. DeDio is a 1991 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, the first chiropractic institution in the world. She is board certified by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and is licensed to practice in both Pennsylvania and New York. Patch sat down with her to help the community learn a little more about its newest doctor.

How did you get started with this practice?

"I've been in practice for 20 years, in Pittsburgh for many years. I'm from New York originally and moved back five years ago, working for other doctors. Last year I started kicking around the idea of opening up my own place again so that’s when we started to look. We moved here in February. It took a while for the permits to come through and we finally got them two weeks ago."

In your profession what is the biggest challenge?

"Obtaining new patients and getting the word out that I am here to help people, not just with bad backs but with their health as well. People just think it’s pain relief, but really I’m looking at the whole body."

What do you enjoy most about your line of work?

"Seeing people get helped. When they’re feeling bad and cant function in a way, and then seeing the results of the treatment and that they’re doing better, they’re smiling again and back to doing what it is they want to do...that is the most fulfilling part."

What are your plans for both the immediate future and long-term as well?

"Just helping a lot of people as much as I can, staying here for at least 10 years and then I'll re-evaluate at that time."

What are some of the things that are unique about your practice?

"We have state of the art, new technology with roller beds and massage therapy tables. I'm a hands-on chiropractor. We’re not just into pain relief but also rehabilitation and getting your body working at its optimum level. Prayer is another thing, I put it out there with the name Divine Chiropractic, but it’s a place people can come for spiritual healing as well."
