Suffolk Police Increases Patrols Over Christian And Jewish High Holy Week

Extra attention to religious houses of worship will continue through next week.

YAPHANK, NY — The Suffolk Police Department will be stepping up patrols this week due to the high Christian and Jewish holidays, a spokesperson said Thursday.

It is a common practice of the department to increase patrols, and add special details near places of worship, around religious holidays.

In Christianity, the holiday began on March 29, which was Palm Sunday, and will continue this week, culminating on East Sunday. It marks the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
