La Grande earns Tree City USA recognition for 36th consecutive year (elkhornmediagroup.com) — La Grande has once again been named a Tree City USA for 2025, marking its 36th consecutive year and earning another Growth Award for its standout urban forestry work. Residents can join several Arbor Day and Oregon Arbor Month activities, including a council proclamation tonight, free tree-care classes, a community tree planting day, and a Greenwood Elementary block party in early May.

2. Community Fazioli Piano Day returns to Eastern Oregon University (eastoregonian.com) — La Grande residents are invited to take the stage at Eastern Oregon University’s McKenzie Theatre on April 11 to play the campus’s $150,000 Fazioli concert grand piano. Community Fazioli Piano Day is free for all ages and skill levels, with morning and afternoon sessions and a lively finale program, while optional donations support EOU music scholarships.

3. UCFD#1 Fire Marshal honored for decades of service (northeastoregonnow.com) — Longtime fire service leader Scott Goff, who grew up in La Grande, has been honored with top awards from the Oregon Fire Marshals Association as he prepares to retire from Umatilla County Fire District #1. His four-decade career has ranged from junior firefighter in Phoenix to regional fire investigations in Northeast Oregon, including the major Shearer’s Foods plant fire in Hermiston.

SLIDESHOW: Pendleton joins nationwide No Kings protests (eastoregonian.com) — A nationwide No Kings protest brought millions into the streets, including demonstrators in Pendleton, La Grande, and John Day. The featured Pendleton march drew over 100 people and highlighted calls to stay politically engaged, with speakers urging participants to register voters ahead of coming elections.
