Next Steps Unveiled For New Abington Middle School
Abington residents approved a new $285 million middle school in the May primary election.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — The vote was narrow. In the township's last election, residents approved plans for a new $285 million middle school that passed by a little more than 550 votes.
With the Nov. 4 general election nearing, candidates for the Abington School Board have expressed their opinions about what the project will mean for the township's future.
Meanwhile, the Abington School District has outlined plans for how the project will proceed regarding project bidding, construction, the new school opening, and the old middle school being demolished. (See the chart below)

With nearly 17,000 votes cast in Abington Township and Rockledge Borough, the new middle school was approved in a special referendum during the May primary election. The project received 8,676 yes votes to 8,129 no votes.
School officials said that the first phase of the project is beginning to take shape.

School District administrators and Abington School Board directors have begun outlining the next steps for the design process, which will involve community input.
In addition to finalizing funding and bond sales in the coming months, the immediate next steps include establishing the process through which the school district will obtain community input, and how those opportunities will be communicated to the public.
