'A Bad Dream': Phoenixville's Street Cart Bagels Working To Reopen After Fire

One of the Phoenixville's newest and most exciting establishments had just opened its doors when it was devastated by a fire.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — A new Phoenixville establishment is fighting back after a devastating fire last week.

Street Cart Bagels opened up on 240 Nutt Road, the site of the old Pizza Hut, in mid-February.

The site was the fulfillment of a dream for the owners, who sought to bring "old school NYC street food" to the borough. They touted malt-boiled, slow fermented bagels for their opening, and opened to rave reviews.

But just weeks into their bagel shop's new life, tragedy struck. Early in the morning of March 3, a fire broke out in their venting system. The incident drew a large emergency response from fire departments around the region.

Fortunately, no one was injured. The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the blaze. But the damage was done for the fledgling eatery, which had just gotten off the ground.

"A lot has gone down and is still happening at the shop," Street Cart shared recently. "But just so you know, we are putting our heads down and working toward our re-re-opening."

Owners said they're in the midst of the clean-up and remediation, and are confident they're coming back "stronger than ever."

"It still feels like a bad dream how we got here, but it’s great knowing you’re all here rooting for us," they added. "So many of you have reached out, commented, encouraged, prayed, well wished, and spread the love in person as we’ve been at the shop cleaning up, sorting through all the to do lists and unifying our team morale."

A GoFundMe had been launched, but no longer appears active. More information on an official reopening date will be provided when it becomes available.
