We are pleased to announce that Eryn Rolison, CPDT-KA (Wonderdog Training, LLC) has successfully graduated from our six-day, 45-hour Level 1 Academy &ndash; Basic Dog Training and Behavior. This is a rigorous, science-based course that requires extensive reading, study, testing, and hands-on work with dogs loaned to Peaceable Paws by area animal shelters and rescue groups (Frederick County Animal Control, Hedgesville Hounds and Last Resort Pet Rescue). 
The course is taught by internationally acclaimed Pat Miller, certified dog trainer and behavior consultant, training editor for The Whole Dog Journal, and author of seven books on dog training, including the best-selling Power of Positive Dog Training and most recently (10/ 2016), Beware of the Dog, on canine aggression. In Spring of 2015, Miller was named by Dog Fancy Magazine as one of 45 people who have changed the dog world and she will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award this fall by the Association of Professional Dog Trainers at their 25th Annual Conference in Memphis, Tennessee. Peaceable Paws is located on a pastoral 80-acre farm in Fairplay, Maryland.
Students are required to pass a comprehensive written final exam to test their knowledge in the areas of behavioral science and learning, husbandry, and instruction, as well as a practical final, during which they demonstrate their training and handling skills as well as the behaviors they have taught to their shelter dog during the week. More than 400 trainers in the US and from other countries including Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates have completed this highly acclaimed course.
Level 1 Academy graduates are invited to further their professional education by taking advanced courses at Peaceable Paws, including Canine Behavior Modification, Advanced Training and Behavior Study, Canine Aggression and Canine Cognition. Students who successfully complete at least three academies become Pat Miller Certified Trainers.
