Menomonee Falls, Wis. — The Menomonee Falls Optimist Club, proudly serving youth in Menomonee Falls and Germantown, is inviting local students to participate in its annual Oratorical and Essay Contests — two longstanding programs that encourage young people to express their ideas, strengthen communication skills, and compete for college scholarships. The 2025–2026 Optimist Essay Contest challenges students to write a 700–800 word essay on the theme: “How My Acts of Service Help Me Understand What My Community Means to Me.” Essays are due Tuesday, February 11, 2025. The 2025–2026 Optimist Oratorical Contest invites students to prepare a 4–5 minute speech on the theme: “The Moment I Realized I Belonged — My Definition of Community.” The contest will take place on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Both contests are open to students under the age of 19 who have not yet graduated from high school. Participants have the opportunity to advance through club, district, and international levels, where they can earn college scholarships of up to $2,500, and even higher awards at subsequent levels. “These contests give students a platform to share their voice, gain confidence, and reflect on what community and optimism mean to them,” said Annie Jurczyk, Co-Chair of the Menomonee Falls Optimist Club’s youth programs. “We’re proud to help local students discover their potential and celebrate their achievements.” Teachers, parents, and community leaders are encouraged to share this opportunity with students who enjoy writing or public speaking. While many camps operate as profit-driven small businesses, Pine Island stands apart as a 501(c)(3) organization. For over a century, it has provided boys aged nine to fifteen the most meaningful experiences of their lives. On a small island in Maine’s Belgrade Lakes, campers live unplugged—without electricity or running water. They gain the freedom to make meaningful choices, the support of a community grounded in shared values, and enough time away from home to feel both independent and integral to a unique community they help build. Whether your son is shy or outgoing, big or small, Pine Island will challenge him to bring out his best in the simple joys and varied circumstances of outdoor living. All of this happens under the close guidance of our caring staff, nearly all of whom are former campers themselves. Traditional Worship: Sunday at 8 am Rejoice Worship: Saturday at 5 pm; Sunday at 10 am Services typically last 70 minutes. We understand that people are busy, but we also greatly desire to spend time in worship, in the Word, in ministry, and in fellowship. &gt;&gt; Where should I go? Our address is: W196 N9525 Cross View Way, Menomonee Falls, WI 53051 Our Elders will open the door for you on the lefthand side of the building. &gt;&gt; What happens on a Sunday? During our gatherings, you can expect an authentic and spiritual experience with sermons from the Bible that you can apply to your life. We will hear directly from the Scriptures, sing and pray together, and have an opportunity to worship through tithes and offerings. &gt;&gt;What do you do for children? We care about our kids at Grace. We offer a dynamic Sunday school program, which runs from September through May. Children's Ministry (3K - 5th Grade) takes place during the sermon at the 10:00 am Sunday worship service. The nursery is also staffed at the 10:00 am Sunday worship service. The nursery is open but not staffed during the other services. &gt;&gt;What should I wear? We are a "come as you are" crowd so you will see everything from suits to jeans. Don't stress about what to wear! We are just happy that you came. &gt;&gt;What kind of music will there be? We provide a variety of music depending on the service style, liturgy, and season. Our musical director provides full, spiritual music on the organ for traditional worship and modern, uplifting music with our praise team for our rejoice (contemporary) services. Additionally, we have special performances by soloists, adult and youth choirs, and instrumentalists.
