Funded with state support and built by Smith Douglas Homes, the project aims to help industrial, hospital, education, fire, and police workers live closer to jobs while boosting Sumter County’s broader economic growth.
   

• Americus City Council hears citizen concern over data center ordinance (americustimesrecorder.com) — Americus residents packed the July 23 City Council meeting to question a proposed ordinance regulating data centers planned for Frank Meyers Industrial Park and to request a 90‑day moratorium. Council members and the city attorney discussed limits on noise, water use, and zoning powers, while citizens pressed for clearer information, transparency, and protections for local utilities and neighborhoods.
   

• Open records request details Sumter County Schools 2024 audit finding (americustimesrecorder.com) — Sumter County Schools received a moderate finding in its 2024 audit after state reviewers discovered two COVID‑related expenditures that were not properly approved or reflected in the federal funding application. The Americus Times‑Recorder obtained the details through an open records request, and Superintendent Jerry Sanders says corrective steps are in place to prevent the issue from recurring in the 2025 fiscal year.
