1. Fairfax County Students Will Need to Tap ID Cards to Ride School Buses (northernvirginiamag.com) — Starting with the 2026–27 school year, every Fairfax County Public Schools student will need to tap a new ID card when boarding and exiting school buses, allowing FCPS to track riders for safety and efficiency. A new app coming this fall will also give parents real-time bus and boarding updates, with backup check-in options if students forget their cards.
   

2. At Money Camp, Fairfax Co. students learn taxes, jobs and the real world (wtop.com) — Fairfax County students are spending a week at Oak Hill Elementary in Herndon learning how paychecks, taxes, banking, and even insurance work through a simulated town called Cent City. The Money Camp program has kids applying for jobs, running mini-businesses, and discovering just how much taxes and unexpected expenses can eat into their earnings.
   

3. No charges filed against driver after child killed in Fairfax County scooter crash (wjla.com) — Police say no charges will be filed against the driver involved in a Fairfax County parking-lot crash that killed a 9-year-old boy riding an electric scooter on Madden Court near Sully Square. Investigators report the minivan was turning when the scooter hit its rear, and they are still examining the scooter’s speed and type, though no reckless driving is suspected.
   

4. I-66 Express Adds New Incident Response Vehicle With Advanced Safety Features (patch.com) — Drivers in Fairfax County using the 66 Express Outside the Beltway will soon see a new custom-built incident response truck designed to better shield crash scenes and clear debris without workers stepping into traffic. The upgraded vehicle adds advanced lighting, cameras, and a debris-removing LaneBlade system, aiming to improve safety and reduce delays for both motorists and roadway crews along I-66.
