• Land selected for new animal shelter (farmvilleherald.com) — Prince Edward supervisors are moving ahead with a new animal shelter, shifting to a smaller, roughly $5–5.5 million facility to replace the outdated, noncompliant shelter on County Shop Road in Farmville. The board also advanced a November referendum on a possible 1% local sales tax for school projects and funded a Farmville youth softball team’s Dixie World Series trip.
   

• Lancers Men's Basketball Embarks on International Tour (longwoodlancers.com) — Longwood’s men’s basketball team, based in Farmville, is heading to Italy through Aug. 3 for a fully donor-funded international tour that mixes exhibition games with major sightseeing. Coaches say the trip will strengthen team chemistry, especially among a roster that includes five international players, as they prepare for the coming season.
