• Salem VA Health Care System appoints Tammy Snyder as executive director (wfxrtv.com) — Veterans who rely on the Salem VA Medical Center now have a new permanent leader, as longtime social worker Tammy Snyder has been appointed executive director after serving in the role on an interim basis. She now oversees the Salem-based tertiary care hospital and five regional outpatient clinics that serve more than 78,000 veterans across Southwest Virginia.
   

• BeerMongers Hold off GreenJackets for 8-7 Victory, Secure Back-To-Back Wins (oursportscentral.com) — Salem baseball fans saw the BeerMongers edge Augusta 8-7 at Carilion Clinic Field, hanging onto first place in the Carolina League North. Kleyver Salazar powered the offense with three hits and three RBIs, while strong late relief preserved the win. The RidgeYaks continue the homestand Friday night in Salem, aiming to lock up at least a series split.
   

• Annual Load the Bus school supply drive kicks off July 31 (wdbj7.com) — Families in Salem can support local students by donating school supplies at the Salem Walmart during the Load the Bus drive July 31 through August 2. Roanoke Valley school divisions are teaming up so kids start the year prepared, and donations can also be made online through Roanoke City Public Schools’ wish list.
