High-speed chase from Fairfax to Prince William leads to trooper injury, teen's arrest (insidenova.com) — A high-speed police chase that began in Springfield and near the Springfield Mixing Bowl ended with a crash in Prince William County, injuring a state trooper. Police say a stolen vehicle hit speeds over 130 mph on I-95 before the teen driver from Maryland was arrested and charged in Fairfax County. The trooper was treated and released from the hospital.
   

2. Mixed reviews on plans for Chantilly Library property (fairfaxtimes.com) — Springfield District residents may want to watch a major proposal in nearby Chantilly, where Fairfax County is weighing replacing the Chantilly Regional Library with a new facility plus roughly 200 affordable housing units. At a packed July 16 meeting, Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity said most residents he spoke with opposed the project, criticizing both the plan and the public process, while county staff emphasized it’s still in early planning stages.
   

3. High temperatures strain electrical grid (fairfaxtimes.com) — Extreme heat and heavy electricity demand are putting real strain on Virginia’s power grid, and Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity is urging local residents—especially seniors—to take precautions. Experts warn that data centers and rising summer temperatures are increasing the risk of brownouts, while advising homeowners and businesses to improve backup power, conserve energy during peak hours, and use simple steps like closing shades and cleaning air filters.
   

4. JUST IN: Man sentenced to prison for raping woman, hiding her body in Springfield woods (ffxnow.com) — A Springfield woman’s killing and sexual assault has led to a 70-year prison sentence for the man who admitted to attacking her and hiding her body in local woods. Fairfax County prosecutors detailed how digital evidence and DNA tied him to the crime, and the judge imposed multiple life sentences with most time suspended, keeping him incarcerated for decades.
