• UVA researchers find new approach to treating a common form of brain cancer (cvillerightnow.com) — UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center researchers in Charlottesville have developed a promising experimental method to get gene-targeting microRNAs past the brain’s protective barrier to attack glioblastoma, the deadliest brain cancer. While still preclinical, the work highlights how University of Virginia scientists are using nanoparticles, focused ultrasound, and microbubbles to pave the way for future trials that could benefit local patients and others worldwide.

• Staunton man in custody after alleged malicious wounding incident (rocktownnow.com) — A Staunton-area man is in custody after deputies say a victim was attacked with a machete on Breezewood Drive and then airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center with severe injuries. Augusta County authorities report the suspect and victim knew each other, and the case, now classified as malicious wounding, remains under active investigation with tips still being sought.
