DENVER, CO —"One, two, three." *Click.* And repeat.
What makes a location Instagrammable? A certain "je ne sais quoi" that only the Insta baddies can sense in the air.
Location matters almost as much as an outfit for an Instagram photo shoot, as everyone knows. But finding fun, interesting backgrounds can be difficult, especially if you never leave the house.

Every person with an Instagram account anywhere near Denver already knows about the pretty twinkly lights and flowers in Larimer Square. At this point, the aesthetic location gives a fine photo that's nothing new.
But we found five locations in Denver to give your Instagram photos the vibe that says you were at a fun location and posted a candid rather than looking as if you made the stop just for a photo opportunity.

If you want to give your feed the feeling of historical beauty and luxury, then head to Union Station. The building still stands from its creation in 1881, and the exterior holds onto the style of the period. The interior is elegant and features an old ticket station-turned bar. Plenty of angles inside and out make great photo ops here, so just explore around for a bit to find the one you want. You can also dine, shop or stay at the hotel on the upper floors.
For a dramatic photo, head to one of Denver's lesser-known gems. The International Church of Cannabis has a truly fantastically gorgeous interior that is painted entirely rainbow. You will not believe it or understand how attention-grabbing it is until you see it. A photo anywhere in the building would be a major Instagram moment with that rainbow swirling all around. The church offers "A Guided Meditation and Laser Light Experience" daily. Learn more here.
If you are looking to add a bit of whimsy and a light mood to the feed, this next location is beary unusual. According to Denver.org, Denver’s Big Blue Bear by Lawrence Argent is "officially named 'I See What You Mean.' [T]he 40-foot-tall Blue Bear is curious and playful and has become a beloved mascot for The Mile High City." While this is a tourist hotspot, the cool aesthetic is all in the execution.
Find the blue giant while perhaps wearing a shade of blue as well to then play with the colors in the photo later. Instead of the typical standing and smiling tourist pose, try a more artsy and angular shape, experimenting with looking in different directions from the camera and with various angles. A candid-type shot may not work well here since it is a well-known attraction, but bring a friend who is willing to stage a photo shoot and give yourself time to try out different ideas.
If tourist attractions are not your scene and you prefer a bit rougher of an urban aesthetic, don't worry; this one's for you. The art of the RiNo Mural Program is a win for everyone involved, including Instagram photo spot scouts. According to the website, "the goal of the RiNo Mural Program is to continue working with a diverse group of local artists to facilitate monthly installations around the district ... All artists are paid for their work."
The result of these collaborations is nothing short of incredible work and fantastic Instagram locations. Check out the map of all of the mural options here to find one that matches your color palette and vibe. You can run with these options in so many different ways, so remember to have fun and let the art inspire you. Oh, and support the program and the artist with a tag in your photo, maybe.
We couldn't pick just one of the Little Man Ice Cream Company locations, so we chose them all. Each one is so different that it will appeal to different feed types and aesthetics. They do have one thing in common, though: the exteriors of these locations do not disappoint. The ice cream shops under the Little Man umbrella are: The Constellation Ice Cream, Sweet Cooie's Ice Cream and Chocolates, Dang Soft Serve, Little Man Ice Cream, Old Town Churn Ice Cream and Little Man Ice Cream Factory. Each one has an impressive dedication to its theme, especially in the physical building itself. This will give the I-just-came-here-for-ice-cream but I-look-amazing photo.
All the details about each location's specialty theme and the wild buildings are here. No matter which shop is your preference, the ice cream provides an obvious prop to pose with as well serve as a pop of color. Play into the quirkiness of the location for a photo that looks like friends letting loose and living life to the fullest.
Have fun! We would love to see the photos you take — share them with us on the Denver Patch Facebook here. (Might as well hit follow while you're there!)
