4 Dirt Bikes Seized From Riders On North Shore Trails: Police
UPDATE: Four people, including one father, were issued tickets, Suffolk police say.
MIDDLE ISLAND, NY — Four dirt bikes were seized from trails on the North Shore last Sunday, Suffolk police said.
It is illegal to operate a dirt bike or ATV on public lands, or private lands without the property owner’s permission.
The seizures were announced in a post to the Instagram account of the 7th Precinct in Shirley.

Two dirt bikes were taken from riders along the Rails to Trails area and on a public roadway, Westchester Drive, in Rocky Point, according to police.
Both riders were minors, and their parents were called to the scene and were cited under a county code, which regulates use of off-road vehicles, police said.

There were two more“tearing” through the Pine Barrens, north of Route 25 in Middle Island, near the old Kmart property, police said, adding that they were driven by a man and his teenage son.
The man was issued 12 summonses related to the activity, police said.
All four of the bikes “are now officially off the streets” after being taken to the department’s impound lot “where they’ll be spending some quality time,” a representative from the 7th Precinct said in the post.
The precinct's brass offered this pro tip: “If it says ‘no,’ it probably means ‘no.’”
