PHOENIXVILLE, PA — A "critical" construction project that aims to restore a damaged piece of the historic Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville is now underway.

The theatre raised more than $200,000 on the crucial project, which officials hope will restore the 1903 Theatre's damaged west wall.

The construction project will repair damaged bricks and mortar, as well as prevent future moisture from seeping in, protecting the structure after years of deferred maintenance, the Colonial said.

The 1903 Theatre is the largest and most iconic aspect of the Colonial, and hosts major events and screenings year-round. It's one of the only theaters in the United States that is equipped for both the traditional 35mm and modern 2k digital film projection.

"The vital work will ensure the 1903 Theatre can continue to be a venue to host concerts, movie screenings, and a variety of other entertainment events for years to come," the Theatre shared in a statement.
