Today's riddle: Why is it so hot after a ball game? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Chesapeake neighbors frustrated by flooded Boston Avenue drainage ditch (wtkr.com) — Neighbors along Boston Avenue in Chesapeake say a poorly maintained roadside drainage ditch repeatedly floods their yards, brings foul odors and bugs, and poses safety concerns for kids and pets. After multiple calls to the city, officials say crews are working through drainage requests, recently found a tree blocking the flow, and are coordinating removal while warning that nearby trees may keep causing problems.

2. Virginia Beach considers park ranger program to help with park service calls (wtkr.com) — Chesapeake residents already benefit from a park ranger station at Chesapeake City Park, and now Virginia Beach is weighing a similar program to handle rising park-related calls. The pilot would add three rangers to boost safety and visitor assistance, potentially easing pressure on police while mirroring systems used in Chesapeake and Norfolk.

3. Harris Teeter in Virginia Beach's Strawbridge Marketplace set to close by April 17 (pilotonline.com) — Chesapeake shoppers can expect their three local Harris Teeter stores to remain open even as the company prepares to close its Strawbridge Marketplace location in Virginia Beach by April 17. The closure follows a broader Kroger review of underperforming stores, but no additional Hampton Roads shutdowns have been announced so far.

4. Suffolk still the top population growth area in Hampton Roads, census data shows (pilotonline.com) — New Census estimates show Suffolk leading Hampton Roads in population growth, with Chesapeake close behind, adding 5,677 residents since 2020 for a 2.3% increase. While Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Newport News lost population, Chesapeake ranks 13th in growth statewide, underscoring its continued appeal as people move toward less dense parts of the region.
