Fairfax College Students Earn Accolades From Their Schools

Patch highlights the academic achievements of college students from the Fairfax City area.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — To shine a light on the academic achievements of college students from the Fairfax City area, Patch shares information provided by the students' families and Merit News.

Maya Pearson of Fairfax was among the 5,100 students conferred their degrees this spring from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Pearson was a student in the graduate college whose program of study was English. The degree awarded was a master of fine arts.

Benen Witkop of Fairfax was among the more than 4,000 undergraduate students at the University of Iowa named to the dean's list for the 2022 spring semester.

Lucy McCarthy, a communication major from Fairfax, made the president's list for the spring 2022 semester at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. To earn a spot on the president's list, a student must have achieved a 4.0 grade point average during the semester.

Liam Weis of Fairfax, a 2024 fine art major at York College of Pennsylvania, was named to the spring 2022 dean's list.

Allanah Wood, of Fairfax received a bachelor of arts degree from Hamilton College on Sunday, May 22, in a Commencement ceremony concluding the college's 210th year. A chemistry major, Wood graduated with departmental honors in chemistry and completed a thesis titled "A Novel Photoredox-Catalyzed Radical Allylation Reaction Using 4CzIPN."
