• Darby House fire survivors get extended housing support, but residents worry about what comes next (henricocitizen.com) — Residents displaced by the Darby House apartment fire in Henrico County, near East Highland Park, just received an extension of hotel funding through a new recovery fund, but only through the end of the month. While United Way, Henrico County, and other partners are stepping in, survivors still face steep rents and uncertainty about finding affordable long-term housing close to their community.

• State finds SwimRVA should have been licensed before 9-year-old King Overton drowned (henricocitizen.com) — Families in and around East Highland Park who use SwimRVA programs should know state regulators say the organization was running an unlicensed child day program when a 9-year-old drowned at its North location in June. The Virginia Department of Education has ordered SwimRVA to submit a compliance plan by July 27 or stop operating by mid-August, while SwimRVA disputes the finding.
