Assault Charge Levied Against Fairfax City School Employee: Police
Fairfax City elementary school employee faces assault charge for incident involving a student in a physical education class, police say.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — A 43-year-old instructional assistant at an elementary school in the City of Fairfax is facing an assault charge for an incident involving a student that occurred last month during a physical education class, according to police.
An investigation by the City of Fairfax Police revealed that Matthew Barber of Fairfax aggressively handled a student Providence Elementary for failing to follow directions on Sept. 19, according to the incident report. No injuries were reported.
A teacher who had witnessed the incident notified school administration and Barber was placed on administrative leave, according to police. Barber was issued with a summons of misdemeanor assault and was released after he promised to appear in court.
