Fatal Accidental Discharge Of Firearm Leads To Fairfax Man's Arrest
A 31-year-old man was arrested after he accidentally discharged a firearm, killing a 30-year-old Fairfax woman, according to police.

FAIRFAX, VA — A 31-year-old Fairfax man was arrested after a firearm he was securing Friday afternoon accidentally discharged and fatally wounded 30-year-old Jennifer Kim of Fairfax, according to police.
Officers responded around 3:35 p.m. to the 4500 block of Derring Lane in Legato for the report of a someone being accidentally shot. The officers found Kim and began administering life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene, according to the incident report. Kim was taken to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
"Preliminarily, detectives determined Richard Huynh, 31, of Fairfax was securing his firearm in a gun box on the third level of the home when the firearm went off," according to the incident report. "The bullet traveled through the floor and entered the second level of the home, striking the victim. Huynh responded downstairs and began first aid."

Police arrested Huynh and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm in a building and held without bond, according to police.
Huynh was arraigned Monday morning in Fairfax County General District Court and had a bond hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, according to court records. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Dec. 23.

The unlawful discharge of a firearm in a building is a Class 5 felony, which is punishable by a sentence of one to 10 years in prison, up to one year in jail, and a fine of up to $2,500, according to the Code of Virginia.
