FAIRFAX CITY, VA — A 26-year-old Sterling man is facing larceny and narcotics charges after being arrested Saturday for taking items from several Fairfax City retail stores, according to police.

Officers from the City of Fairfax Police Department responded around 2:13 p.m. for the report of a larceny at Designer Shoe Warehouse, which is located at 9650 Main St.

“The reporting party stated that an unknown male entered the business, took multiple items, and left the business without rendering payment,” according to the incident report. “Officers located the suspect nearby. The investigation revealed that the suspect had also stolen items from Ross, Safeway, and Sierra. During a search of the suspect, officers located narcotics.”

Police arrested Jason Zelaya Garcia of Sterling and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with four counts of petit larceny and possession of narcotics, according to police. He was then held on a secure bond.

On Monday morning, Zelaya Garcia was arraigned in Fairfax County General District Court and a preliminary hearing was set for Dec. 23, according to court records.

The four petit larceny charges are Class 1 misdemeanors, which each carry a possible sentence of up to 12 months in jail, a fine of up to $2,500, or both, under Virginia law.

The possession of Schedule I or II drugs charge is a Class 5 felony. If Zelaya Garcia is convicted on this charge, he could potentially be sentenced to one to 10 years in prison, up to one year in jail, and a fine of up to $2,500, according to the Code of Virginia.
